His dark and unsettling short stories and novels were shaped in large part by personal experience (a professional merchant mariner for much of his life, many of Hodgson's tales are set at sea), and his work evokes a disturbing sense of the amorphous and horrific unknown. As something fun to read, I’d say don’t bother. Perhaps if you’re making a study of feminist literature over the past 100 years it might be something worth reading. I think it is common to bump up against transcendentalism and conclude that the movement was promoting man of over God or man over religion but I think it is more correct to understand it as a movement that was trying to create a better way to live. The point being that Transcendentalism was not simply a philosophical movement but a philosophical and religious movement. Modern students should keep in mind that though freedom of religion was a founding principal of the United States, religion was pervasive and much more deeply intertwined with the culture than it is today. For most men, it appears to me, are in a strange uncertainty about it, whether it is of the devil or of God, and have somewhat hastily concluded that it is the chief end of man here to "glorify God and enjoy him forever." ![]() ![]() ![]() Tomorrow, it will be up to Sky and her friends to save humanity from the very edge of extinction. 6/6/2023 0 Comments Marriage for one by ella maise![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We were doomed from the very beginning with those names. The next it was still nothing but a lie.Īfter all, I was Rose and he was Jack. The next he seemed to be completely mine. ![]() And day after day my heart started to get a mind of its own. No, he still didn't talk much, but anyone can string a few words together. It wasn't long after he said I was the biggest mistake of his life that things started to change. I blamed his eyes, the ocean blue eyes that looked straight into mine unapologetically, and that frown on his face I had no idea I would become so fascinated with in time. Jack Hawthorne was nothing like what I'd imagined for myself. It took him only minutes to talk me into a business deal…erm, I mean marriage, and only days for us to officially tie the knot. Well…I did all those things except the walking away part. You'd think I'd laugh in his face, call him insane-and a few other names-then walk away as quickly as possible. A stranger who had been dumped by her fiancé only weeks before. A complete stranger who had never even heard of him. You'd think a guy who looked like him-a bit cold maybe, but still striking and very unattainable-would only ask the love of his life to marry him, right? You'd think he must be madly in love. The day he lured me into his office-which was also the first day we met-he proposed. ![]() |
